I totally agree with the other reviews! These insets are finely crafted of a heavy guage, sturdy metal that I am guessing will hold up for many, many years. It seems like they are even painted with a durable automotive paint or something similar. We just received this set in the mail (along with the trays, holders, colored pencil holders, etc etc to complete the pre-writing assemblage) and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and size. These have already been handled by my three children and they love the colors, weight, and fantastic, familiar and unfamiliar shapes. This was our first purchase from Montessori Outlet, and the prices, quality, shipping time and cost, and customer service have all been amazing! Trust these insets and this company--they will not disappoint!

My children have used these insets for so many activities. They have simply traced both the inset and frame, have made "My Shapes Books", traced many shapes together seeing for themselves how shapes work together to create different shapes, they have traced then cut using scissors, traced and used for punching activities... the list goes on! The small knobs are welded onto each shape so you don't have to worry about it separating and pencil marks are very easily removed. These were purchased close to one year ago and look just like they did the day we received them. I would recommend this product without hesitation.

These metal insets are so necessary for the children's pre-writing skills practice. As they trace the space left by the shape, or alternately trace the shape, they develop the motor skills and strength for later making letter forms to begin writing. The paint on these has not scratched or chipped in more than a year that I've had them, and stray pen and other markings have washed off easily. I also highly recommend getting the stands for these unless you already have a dedicated shelf. These are a pain to move around without it. You'll also want the paper, paper box, colored pencils (and holders?)and the two sided work tray. This all adds up in cost, but these are high quality materials that you'd be paying so much more for anywhere else. It's worth it.
